Dr. Ibrahim Kolawole Muritala is a registered engineer with over a decade history of work, and research experience in higher education institutions, research sector, energy, oil and gas industry.

He is a graduate of Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, where he specialized in energy process engineering and chemical engineering. He holds MSc. in Process Engineering and Plant Design from Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) Cottbus, Germany as well as BSc. in Chemical and Polymer Engineering from the Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos, Nigeria.

Dr. Ibrahim is a visiting professor at Coal City University, Enugu and an adjunct lecturer at the Kenyan – German Centre for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management (CEMEREM), Taita Taveta University, Kenya. Adjunct Supervisor of PhD Students research at the World Bank African Centre of Excellence for Oilfield Chemicals Research, University of Port Harcourt and Department of Chemical Engineering, Port Harcourt, Nigeria as well as the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASSCAL) – Doctoral Research Program on Climate Change and Energy (DRP-CCE),  Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey (Université Abdou-Moumouni), Niger.

Dr. Ibrahim teaches courses in the areas of chemical process design, renewable energy systems technologies, petroleum engineering and reservoir engineering and so on.  He has published in several international journals (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8623-6625).

He is a founder of several organizations,  a registered engineer  and active member of the many professional organizations like: Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) just to mention a few.

He is a co-founder of AFIDAT UG, an international development consulting and research firm as well as Life Learning Development e.V. – a knowledge sharing and capacity development platform that focus on the SDGs.

He supports the development of cutting edge innovations through solar chemical engineering research projects of the DLR´s Institutes of Solar Research, headquartered in Cologne. There, he engaged in the development of innovative technologies ranging from the production of aviation fuel and hydrogen via solar energy, application of concentrated solar power (CSP) technology for process heat for electricity generation, thermochemical processes for chemicals and hydrogen production as well as several carbon dioxide emission reduction and utilization strategies among others.

Currently, he works with German Aerospace Center (DLR) as a researcher where he is involved with international research and technological development projects at the Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes – Cottbus / Zittau, Germany. There, he provides decarbonization technological interventions for energy-intensive processes in key industries like chemicals and cement as well as steel production.
